Playing Fitzroy gave us the opportunity to give ourselves a 3 game buffer between 4^th and 5^th positions and the players knew this.

 

Conditions were wet and slippery after rain the previous couple of days

 

We had 3 CGS players (Wigney, Dorevitch, Kennedy) playing and having Kennedy as another tall gave us the ability great flexibility in team structure.

 

We started well and kept the ball in our half most of the quarter.  Dorevitch after playing school footy on Friday was on fire kicking 2 goals and collecting many possession’s. Wigney on a wing and Fynmore in the ruck also had good 1^st quarters. We kept the pressure on Fitzroy. Boal was a lead by example making an courageous spoil when Fitzroy were coming out of their backline. Our backline held firm with Blaich, Simpson and Amos keeping things under control. At quarter time we had a 18 point lead having kept Fitzroy goaless.

 

The 3^rd was going to go a long way in determining the winner. We dominated the first 15 minutes of the quarter with many highlights. “Waldo” Waldron playing in front marked strongly and kicked truly, Slack was in everything kicking a goal and passing to Ball resulting in another. Dorevitch created a strong contest which allowed Lyon to gather the ball resulting with Ball kicking another. Ball, Slack Sweetapple-Gagiero, Kennedy, Spielvogel, Collins and Amos all had good quarters with CGFC 29 points up.

 

The final quarter was just really about playing out time. We were in control but couldn’t kick a major but had Fitzroy under control to win by 19 points.
