Round 5 was a huge game for the senior women.

With Monash coming into the game undefeated so far this season, the Fields were looking to redeem themselves after a tough loss at Como the week prior.

A number of key players returned this round, which ensured a strong side to face the top side.

The Fields knew that they needed to have a strong start to the game and they did exactly that, kicking 5 goals in the opening term to Monash’s single.

Kate Macqueen put on an absolute clinic playing deep at full forward, kicking 2 goals in the first quarter.

Julia Caplan, Amy Silver and Sami Stewart all kicked one each in the phenomenal opening quarter providing the Fields with a 25 point lead at quarter time.

The racecourse end of Pressure Park was the scoring end on Saturday and the back line had their work cut out for them in the second term.

Monash had plenty of scoring opportunities, but were only able to convert 1 goal and 6 behinds in the second quarter.

The back line, led by Amy Dumas and Montana White kept their structure and remained composed, allowing the fields to hold onto the lead despite not chalking up any scores for the quarter.

The second half finished up with Fields in the lead 5.1 – 31 to 2.6 – 18.

The third quarter had the Fields kicking with the wind and saw Mez Anthony and Amy Silver kick a goal each.

The forwards worked seamlessly together, timing their leads and backing each other up all day.

Toni Hamilton and Julia Caplan were valuable additions to the forward line and midfield throughout the day, complementing best on ground performances from Ella Baxter, Rachel Cribb and Chelsea Fischer.

Monash also managed to kick two goals in the third term, with strong marking and accurate kicking however the Fields held onto a 13 point lead heading into the final term.

The final quarter brought some scrappy football, with both teams struggling to get clear possession of the ball, resulting in a busy day for rucks Kelly Cosgrave and Jess Harley.

With the scoreboard on their side, Kate Macqueen kicked another goal cementing the 19 point victory.

The relentless midfield and backline ensured that Monash only got away with two minor scores in the last term. The final score being 8.3 - 51 to 4.9 - 33.
