The Ressies kicked off the first game of the season against the newly formed RMIT Women’s Football. Nerves were present early, but the girls were looking for redemption after getting knocked out of the finals series in 2018. The first quarter started strong, with four goals to none, including one from the newly appointed captain, Sigrid ‘Mama’ Pitkin. 

The second quarter saw some big hits from sweeping centre-half-back Andrea ‘Six-Pack’ Mills, and a stellar midfield performance from Ruby Hong which included a grab out of the middle, followed by three bounces, a ‘don’t argue’, and a goal to finish. The half-time score looked strong, with Caulfield sitting on 9.6.60 – RMIT only managing to score a single behind. 

The second half kicked off with a bang, with the excellent combined efforts of the mids provided plenty of options for the forwards, with Amy ‘Huddo’ Hudson provided a strong marking option up forward, finishing with a couple in the bag. 

RMIT ran out of legs during the last, leaving plenty of space to run for the Fields. Clare Travis never stopped working up forward and ended up with three, as did Shelley and Belle. A couple each for Joselle ‘Bouncies’ Bardwell, Huddo and Mama Sig, Ruby finished with a single, as did backline staple Lily ‘Gaz’ Rice with her first ever goal. More accurate kicking could have ended up in an even bigger score, but the girls were pretty happy with a 121-point victory. Nice one Gary.
